Western. Although I have experience in English methods of riding, it is not to an instructor level I'm happy with.
Yes to both. I provide multiple options. I can provide a horse for lessons at my place or you can bring your own. I can come to your place and train you and your horse as well. I also offer Intermediate and up lessons in packing and trails out on location. As well as Clinics and group lessons.
A gaited horse is one that carries the DMRT3 gene that allows for a broader spectrum of locomotion. That means that it can, and often does, move in the most diagonal of gaits like the trot. All the way to the most lateral, like the pace. In the Trot, a diagonal pair of feet move at the same time (front right and hind left) whereas in a Pace, a lateral pair move at the same time (left front and left hind). Some breeds found within the gaited spectrum would be the Paso Fino, Tennessee Walker, Missouri Foxtrotter, Rocky Mountain Horse, Spotted Saddle Horse, and more. There are also some breeds that have divided lines. For example, Some lines of Morgans are gaited and some are not. A gaited horse is typically smoother and more efficient in their motion lending them to jobs that require more miles or rougher terrain. Also due to their smooth gaits, they are often better suited for people with physical disabilities or range of motion concerns.
No. I have very humble facilities. I also prefer to work outdoors.
No. I can't keep up with the requisite cleaning and care of enough helmets to ensure proper fit for my range of clients. I recommend you bring your own if you would like to wear one. I do not require them.
I will work with children as young as 7. However young children will likely be more general riding lessons and not the comprehensive horsemanship instruction given to older riders and adults.
No. I teach horsemanship that will improve any discipline that involves horses. I don't participate in many competitions myself so I don't instruct any either.
All lessons are private unless otherwise scheduled. I schedule by the hour and do my best to fill every minute of it with value. Group lessons and clinics are scheduled differently. For information on those, please reach out and we'll fit it to the need.
No. The only thing you have to bring is clothes appropriate for riding and for the weather. Also, a helmet if you would like one. The tack is supplied. If you have your own tack and it fits my horse, you can bring it. If you have a horse and want to try one of my saddles, if it fits we'll use it.
